dododo

MessyMsxi was invited by Japanese fashion label UNTITLED to create an animation for their upcoming Autumn Winter 2015 launch and exhibition.

In the animation, the character’s garments changes from scene to scene, featuring the range of collection from UNTITLED AW15. Each outfit complements and corresponds to the varying activities and scenarios of the day. The character exudes a sense of leisure and confidence in her outfit, complimented by the whimsical landscapes it brings out a sense of quirkiness and fun.

Based on the theme of their collection, ‘The Modern Girl’, also know as ‘Mobo Moga’ in Japanese, I was keen to explore the attributes and persona of a “modern girl” in my animation. The denotation of “modern girl” defines one who is independent, with the liberty to do what she wants and likes. I felt the word ‘do’ embodies the context and spirit of a “modern girl”, thus I came up with ‘dododo’ , as the title for the animation. It was suitable as it was not too descriptive and rather quirky, yet it adhered to the spirit of the collection.

The animation was created through traditional analogue processes and painted frame by frame with watercolour.
