Converse presents its first Singapore’s City Forest mural, titled “Let Equality Bloom” at Converse Flagship Store at Jewel Changi Airport. This intricate piece aims to provoke thought on gender equality.
The mural depicts a flora and fauna eco-system growing out of a hard wall, with each element colour-coded to represent one’s gender identity. It depicts a vibrant yet harmonious community. Artistically woven in is the natural imagery with the message of growth, tolerance, empathy and acceptance for a united “blooming” community that breaks any barriers to gender discrimination over time.
A QR code on the mural allows for interaction between the art piece and viewer. Upon scanning the artwork using Converse’s City Forest Instagram filter, viewers virtually can hunt for “Easter eggs” cleverly hidden in the mural. Each of these eggs highlights three key milestones for gender equality in Singapore’s history, such as the criminalization of marital rape under the Criminal Law Reform Act, the passing of the Women’s Charter Bill in 1961 and the date AWARE was founded. This interactive experience aims to spark conversations, forge emotional connections and inspire change, as viewers learn about social movements in Singapore that break barriers in gender equality.
